BR6 / Fire to Strike, Stone to Shelter
The Ember Crucibles · Field Guide
Places, people and studies from the Ember Crucibles: the rings where fire finds direction, the chambers where effort learns its measure, and the sheltered rooms that hold life between lessons.
Places and tools
Heat, Shelter and Daily Work
The three centres, the inhabited rooms, protected galleries and shared workshop pieces.

Heat Kept Within
The section follows heat through chambers, galleries and places of recovery. Dry circulation connects these uses while the surrounding liquid remains beyond the boundaries that make the structure habitable.

The Furnace Rings
Concentric courts and prepared targets give the Furnace Rings their working shape. The clear practice floor leaves space for rapid changes of position and short, directed emissions.

The Cinder Chambers
The Cinder Chambers gather quieter practice within rectangular mineral bays. Refractory surfaces and contained warmth support the work of sustaining, reducing and ending an emission.

The Tempering Courts
The Tempering Courts place covers and clear lanes within a shared training space. Their arrangement lets defence, movement and the route of a companion become parts of the same exercise.

The Refractory Walk
Potters work along one side of the Refractory Walk while meals continue on the other. Between them, the sheltered passage gives everyday movement its own place beside the demands of the courts.

A Room Beside the Landing
The room opens onto a broad protected landing, with separate places for Saevren and Thoden to rest. A desk and luggage niche keep the traveller's belongings close without filling the space between them.

Tools Returned to the Bench
A refractory plate, flat ceramic disc, shallow bowl, wooden-handled tongs and rust cloth form the small borrowed set. They belong to the workshop and return to its bench when the lessons are finished.

Where the Heat Falls Away
A pale bench, a sheltered doorway and a protected opening give the recovery chamber its simple arrangement. The centre stays clear, leaving room to sit, breathe and gather oneself after effort.

Saevren
Practice clothing, accumulated strength and the hair he usually binds.

Clothes for the Thermal Courts
Fitted charcoal practice trousers and familiar tall boots leave Saevren's torso free for the work of the thermal courts. His personal Ward stays in its usual place beneath the clavicles.

The Strength That Stays
The accumulated work brings greater definition across Saevren's existing strength. The study compares his arrival with the later refinement seen during the defensive lessons and the final exercises.

The Hair He Usually Binds
When the braid is undone, the same chestnut hair falls in thick waves to his thighs. These quieter views follow its length and weight through the moments between demanding lessons.

People of the Crucibles
Eshrik, Velkira, Dherrek, Orlena and Heskar: the people who share this part of his journey.

Eshrik · Instructor of The Furnace Rings
Eshrik teaches in the Furnace Rings, moving quickly enough to demand an answer before preparation feels complete. His silver regulating chains accompany both simple daily clothing and the barefoot work of training.

Velkira · Instructor of The Cinder Chambers
Velkira's work in the Cinder Chambers concerns the measure an emission can sustain and the moment it should end. Her close attention gives Saevren room to recognise the difference through practice.

Dherrek · Mentor of The Tempering Courts
Dherrek guides the placement of stone protection and the movement it must allow. In the Tempering Courts, his own defence remains part of the work he shares with a companion.

Orlena · Keeper of the Lodgings
Orlena keeps the lodging and its everyday routines welcoming. From the first room to the last farewell, her practical care makes space for a traveller and a companion who continues to grow.

Heskar · Refractory Potter
Heskar turns a practice piece towards the light before it leaves the bench. The refractory potter's knowledge belongs to edges, surfaces and the everyday condition of objects that many people will use.

Direction, Protection and Measure
Localized heat, a directed flame, fitted ice and stone, and a slight movement of the surrounding liquid.

Heat and a Held Flame
Localized heat and a held flame ask for different kinds of attention. The studies place a heated ceramic surface beside a small emission sustained between the hands.

Fire Given Direction
A brief projection connects an open palm with a prepared mineral target. The clear interval between them makes its direction, length and point of contact visible.

Ice That Fits His Form
Translucent pieces follow the volumes of chest and abdomen. The spaces between the ice plates preserve room for breathing and movement while the protection stays close to the body.
View full image ↗
Stone That Moves with Him
Opaque stone pieces cover selected areas without becoming a rigid shell around the whole body. Their separate edges follow the torso and leave the joints of the movement free.

The Red Moves a Little
From inside the dry shelter, Saevren influences a small portion of the surrounding bromine. The response remains modest and demanding, and the liquid resumes its course when the effort ends.

Thoden
Four physical wings and a body that takes up more of the space beside Saevren.

A Larger Shadow at His Side
Thoden grows from Saevren's height to a crown roughly half a metre above it. Four physical wings, two feet and a long tail keep their own proportions as his body takes up more of their shared space.
