A search begins together.
In Osereth, inhabited courts open within a sheltered wall of stone. The Temple of the Second Breath brings together learning, reconstruction and the uncertain work of recovering an interrupted life. Follow Rhaevan, Nakhren and Varesh from Imenvar into the temple, and toward a first step they choose together.
- The sheltered territory
- Osereth occupies an interior rocky depression, with excavated courts and deep rooms. It meets Akheryn, Imenvar, Kharuset and Setharyn, without an exterior suture.
- The returning life
- Imenvar preserves conscious continuity. Osereth seeks to recover an interrupted life through necromancy, reconstruction and care. A return remains uncertain.
- The shared search
- Rhaevan’s promise continues through the journey. In private, all three take part in deciding how to seek more time together.

Within a sheltered rocky depression, Osereth opens into inhabited courts and galleries cut deep into the stone. Ramps connect its different levels, and the Temple of the Second Breath rises from the inner cliff.

Temple of the Second Breath
Across the sunken court, apprentices carry instruments while supplies pass between the galleries. The great entrance frames a succession of warm thresholds, revealing only the beginning of the rooms within the rock.

Temple of the Second Breath — Interior Cutaway
A cutaway view opens the temple to its working spaces: reception and records, teaching tables, reconstruction halls, listening chambers, recovery courts and service galleries. Light reaches the inhabited rooms through courts set into the stone.

The Road Beyond the Promise
Before leaving Imenvar, Nakhren settles the sealed vessels into a padded travel chest. Rhaevan holds a strap as Varesh checks Kharum’s harness. The promise made above the necropolis goes with them, carried into the ordinary work of departure.

Where the Terraces Break
The terraces break into ledges and deep openings in the rock. Nakhren offers Rhaevan a hand over a change in level, while Varesh follows with Kharum. Together they take the descent toward Osereth.

The Sheltered Descent
Through an opening between the rocks, the first inhabited court comes into view. They step into a wider part of the path to let a caravan climb past. Varesh points out the descent while Rhaevan and Nakhren watch the traffic below.

Room for Those Who Arrive
In the upper courts, Kharum is received and the luggage begins to come down. The travellers leave room for an assisted transfer to pass. Afterwards, Rhaevan brings Nakhren water while Varesh continues helping with the load.

Near the archives, the temple keeper welcomes them around a table and explains how an evaluation begins. Nakhren and Varesh join the conversation, asking their own questions as Rhaevan listens beside them.

Beneath a rocky overhang, Varesh breaks the bread and passes a portion to Rhaevan. Nakhren draws the bench closer to sit beside them. Behind their table, apprentices and residents carry on with the day.

At a teaching table, an apprentice adjusts an articulated practice hand under an instructor’s guidance. Nakhren leans closer to follow the movement. Rhaevan and Varesh listen from the other end, their shoulders near each other.

Two specialists fit a support around a person’s forearm. Varesh asks how much a repair can sustain. Rhaevan briefly rests his hand on Varesh’s arm; both understand why the question matters.

From a raised threshold, they watch two necromancers concentrate beside a covered figure. Instruments hold the chamber’s quiet attention. The travellers remain to one side, witnessing an attempt whose outcome is still unknown.

In a recovery court, someone who returned before this visit practises a few steps with help. The three leave the route clear. Nakhren brushes Rhaevan’s hand as they watch the patient work toward the next step.

A Door We Can Close
Their host has withdrawn. Varesh closes the door, Nakhren puts the halberds aside, and Rhaevan turns toward them. Pale stone, comfortable seats and water on a low table give them room to speak in private.

What I Was Told
With the ritual scrolls partly unrolled before them, Rhaevan shares what he was told: thirteen keys, scattered across planes and realities, could allow Nakhren and Varesh to remain in these bodies for many cycles. Nakhren gently holds his wrist while Varesh asks a question. Rhaevan speaks of Sten, his grandnephew and the designated heir, whom he believes may be able to help. None of them yet knows the Pack.

The First Step Is Ours
Nakhren writes down what they know. Varesh points to a question still unanswered, and Rhaevan listens before adding his own thought. They agree to begin by setting down the known details and the questions they need to ask. With the ritual scrolls spread between them, the first step belongs to all three.
